COVID-19 Mitigation- Let’s stop the spread

Current CDC recommendations.

Amid general confusion and lack of good explanation regarding the current CDC social distancing recommendations I would like to take a moment to explain why these recommendations are important to follow.  As stated in my last email, for the majority of people who get it, COVID-19 symptoms will be mild and not life threatening.  Media coverage with lack of education continues to drive fear that I would like to attempt to waylay with education.

Again, I would like to reiterate that COVID-19 will be a mild cold for 80-85% of people who become ill from it, many people may be carriers of the virus and never have any symptoms.  This puts many others at risk.  Due to the quick rate of transmission the current recommendations of reducing social contact, not only in large groups but in general, are to reduce the rate of transmission.  These recommendations are not because the virus is severe or has a high mortality rate, they are for population safety and preservation of our current medical resources.  At the current transmission rate the number of people who may have severe symptoms that necessitate hospital care will out pace the number of hospital beds, ventilators and staff that are available to care for the people that do have complications from this virus.  We need to slow the rapid rate of infection so that medical resources can catch up.

I understand that there are mixed feelings regarding these recommendations and that many people cannot afford to stay home or do not have the ability to work remotely.  Many of you have been patient’s in my practice for many years and know that I strive to educate, speak the truth and provide the highest quality of medical care to every individual.  I hope that this information can shed some light on what has become a scary situation unnecessarily.  I agree with the current CDC recommendations and encourage all of you to limit your close contact with others to only absolutely necessary interactions.  If you can stay home, please do so.  If you are not feeling well, please contact our office first DO NOT go to an urgent care or hospital.  These facilities are overrun, and you have a higher risk of contracting any type of illness.

Know the Symptoms:  There is currently some confusion regarding what are and are not symptoms of COVID-19. There are only 3 symptoms.

  1. Fever
  2. Dry cough
  3. Shortness of breath

The following symptoms ARE NOT associated with COVID-19

Sore throat, sinus or nasal congestion, post nasal drip, productive cough (mucus)

Quantum’s Response to COVID-19

We will be providing virtual visits for both sick and well patients and physical therapy, most especially those at high risk for complications of illness.  Ask the front desk for more information if you are interested in an e-visit.  Chiropractic will still be here for in office treatment.

If you need to be seen for illness, we have set up a sick room in the building at the front.  If you have any cold symptoms you will be given special directions for check in and where to go when you arrive at the building.  We are implementing this to avoid close contact with others in the office
